Emily Returns as Head of Creative

Emily Spencer Returns to Buoyant Upholstery as Head of Creative

Buoyant’s commitment to invest in people and its desire to be the best UK upholstery manufacturer in its field is evident with the welcome return of Emily Spencer as Head of Creative.

Having previously been part of the Buoyant team, Emily returns with an established understanding of the business, its customers and its commercial approach. Alongside this familiarity, she brings a great appreciation for fabrics, colour and interior trends.

As Head of Creative, Emily will take the lead on fabric selection and acquisition, working closely with suppliers to source and develop collections for both new and current models. Her focus will ensure Buoyant’s fabric offering remains commercial, relevant and varied, providing retailers and consumers with a broad choice of styles, textures, colours and patterns.

Speaking about her return to Buoyant, Emily Spencer said:

“Returning to Buoyant Upholstery as Head of Creative is an exciting next chapter for me. My role is very much focused on fabric and how it can be used to shape the direction of our collections. I’ve always believed that fabric is one of the most important elements of an upholstered piece, as it can completely transform the character of a design and ultimately bring it to life.

Having been part of the business previously, I understand the heritage, expertise and knowledge that sit behind the Buoyant name. It’s been great to return with the opportunity to build on that strong foundation while bringing a fresh creative perspective. I’m particularly excited about developing our fabric direction and exploring new combinations of colour, texture and pattern that feel fresh, distinctive and relevant to today’s consumer. There is a huge amount of creativity and opportunity within upholstery, and I want to ensure that fabric is recognised as a key driver of design rather than simply a finishing touch.

I’m looking forward to bringing new ideas to the business, pushing our creative direction forward and playing a part in shaping the next chapter for Buoyant.”

Fabric continues to play an increasingly important role in the overall appeal and identity of upholstered furniture, and Emily’s expertise will help Buoyant create cohesive fabric stories across its collections.

Emily’s responsibilities will extend beyond fabric sourcing, with the Head of Creative role encompassing the wider creative direction. By considering how colour, texture, pattern and presentation work together, she will help shape a distinctive identity across the company’s portfolio while maintaining the commercial appeal that remains central to the business.

Her appointment comes at an important period for Buoyant Upholstery as the company continues to develop and broaden its product portfolio while the experience gained since her previous tenure provides an opportunity to bring fresh thinking and new influences into the role. With their offering continuing to evolve, dedicated creative expertise will enable the manufacturer to respond to changing interior trends while retaining a clear understanding of what works for retailers and consumers. This combination of familiarity and a fresh perspective is expected to play an important part in the continued evolution of Buoyant’s collections.

The appointment represents a further investment in the manufacturer’s creative capabilities within the design team and comes as the business continues to build momentum across its product offering.
